ONE WORD

One Word is a dramedy inspired by the prompt, “Toward the end of your life, you feel the compulsion to assign a one-word description to everyone you know. These labels change the daily life of your small town.”

Initially written in September 2022, this fun story was my second baby to follow the prompts. However, it was last revised in January 2024. One Word takes place on Friar, the smallest yet second-most popular isle in the fictional Caribbean archipelago, Saint Delani Islands. When it's discovered that Luna, a terminally ill woman, is somewhat of a local prophet, the government orders her to make posts about the residents of the island “for the better of their country.” As the days go by, Luna’s health immensely worsens. Indignant about the wrongful conviction of her daughter’s friend, Pierre, she uses her last morsel of energy to clear his name of a crime he didn’t commit.
